Today’s featured wedding is Beth and Devon’s beautiful Woman’s Club of Portsmouth wedding! With a perfect mix of styles, it included an organic outdoor ceremony and a classy indoor reception. The touches of peach throughout the wedding worked perfectly with the splashes of greenery, and the entire wedding party looked stunning! The weather was perfect for a wedding, and gave them the beautiful backdrop for their gorgeous bride and groom portraits by the ever talented Elizabeth Henson Photos. They opted for a first look, and then during cocktail hour they took some beautiful shots down by the water. Beth and Devon had a truly magical day, and we loved seeing how loved this couple is. Check out the rest of the photos and learn more about the couple in the Q & A down below!
What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?
We wanted something that felt natural and relaxed, but didn’t want to go overboard with the very popular rustic look. Although we like it, and did incorporate some “rustic” details, we still wanted our wedding to have a timeless, romantic feel. We wanted to be able to look back on pictures years from now and not wonder why on earth we chose a certain color or decoration. I love neutrals, so we didn’t even choose specific colors for the wedding. Our ceremony was outside, so we kept it very simple and incorporated only a few natural elements, including a homemade wooden arbor draped with greens and flower petals scattered down the aisle. The reception was a bit more formal, although it only took a few small details to give it a romantic feel. We rented an ivory rosette table runner to make the head table stand out as well as gold chiavari chairs that played a big role in making our venue look amazing.
What was your favorite thing about your wedding?
Obviously, the best part of the wedding was getting to marry my soul mate and best friend. I am a very detail oriented planner, but I knew that I didn’t want to worry about a single thing on the day of the wedding. It was great letting all of the hard work of wedding planning pay off, and just being able to relax and have a blast with all of our closest family and friends. There were too many other amazing parts of the day that make it very difficult to pick a “favorite thing.” Even with all of the gorgeous details–my bouquet, the champagne blush bridesmaids dresses, the absolutely perfect weather–my favorite parts were definitely found in special moments throughout that day. Spending hours laughing and getting ready with my bridesmaids, seeing the tears in my Dad’s eyes as he held my arm and walked me down the aisle, the look of love on my almost-husband’s face, and completely botching a twirl during our first dance are just a few of the memories that I won’t forget.
Which local vendors made your day EXTRA special?
Another tough question!! I am not originally from the Hampton Roads area, so I really did my homework researching vendors, reading reviews, and getting referrals. Each and every one of my vendors was absolutely PHENOMENAL to work with and go above and beyond for their brides.
East Beach Catering not only has the most delicious food, but their service is exceptional. They helped us envision what everything would look like at the final walk-through and created a detailed floor plan so that things were set-up just how we wanted them. Their event coordinator, Denise, is one in a million and blew me away with how promptly she responded to even the smallest request.
Elizabeth Henson is the sweetest woman to work with! She’s great at making anyone feel comfortable-even if they don’t particularly like getting their picture taken. She did an excellent job of capturing “moments” in candids she took throughout our day, while also making sure to get each specific pose that I had requested. Aside from the shots with our bridal party, I barely even noticed her during the actual wedding–which is a good thing because I have been to too many weddings where the photographer is always in the way and distracting to guests.
Kelly Gish knows flowers and I love her style. Flowers honestly weren’t super high on my priority list at first, but when I saw photos of her work compared to other’s, I knew that was exactly what I wanted. Kelly was able to take my very general ideas, and turn them into the most beautiful bouquets and centerpieces I have ever seen, and they were definitely one of my favorite details from our wedding.
What is your best piece of advice for other local brides?
There are so many great vendors in this area, which means that it’s a lot of work to take the time to actually compare each one to ensure you are making the best selection. I loved that our venue was a blank canvas and we were able to make our wedding unique, but looking back, I understand the benefits and time that it saves picking a venue with package options. Decide if you have the time and desire to plan and select each vendor by hand before checking out venues. Another big factor for us when selecting a venue was the rain back-up plan (for anyone planning an outdoor wedding!). We checked out a couple places that were absolutely spectacular, but the rain option was not at all what we wanted, so for us, it wasn’t worth taking the gamble. Lastly, as I’m sure we’ve all heard, focus on the big picture and try not to get too caught up in the tiny details. As long as all of the important things are in place, your wedding will be beautiful and no one will notice (or care) if you had perfectly hand-written escort cards or not.
