What inspired you to start your business?

My love for art, pastry, and customer service all collided and became a hobby that I just couldn’t stop doing while working full time in the medical field. When my husband received military orders to Okinawa, Japan I had to put my medical career on hold. When we arrived to the island my husband realized the massive request for custom cakes and pushed me to start my business full time. That is where Whipped Up fully blossomed, towards the end of our time in Okinawa I was getting a lot of brides that were having destination weddings. They came from all over the world just to get married on one of the most gorgeous islands in the world and that started my love for weddings, at that point I knew what my calling was.

What is your favorite part about baking & decorating wedding desserts?

I love everything about baking & decorating. I love knowing my clients, hearing their stories, and creating that perfect flavor combination that reminds them of when they first met and shared that first sweet treat or drink. I want to design a cake that reflects the couple perfectly and matches the theme of their wedding. I always tell everyone, I do not operate like traditional bakeries, I am like the designer you higher to design your dream room.

What do you love most about Hampton Roads weddings?

What I love most about Hampton Roads Weddings is the relationships you get to build with all of the other wedding professionals. Building these relationships make working every wedding together more of a family event and it is even better when you all have built that family feel with your clients, the days go by smoothly and happily!

Who/what is your biggest baking/dessert inspiration?

I have so many industry inspirations like Cynthia White of Caked by Cynthia White, Shannon Bond of Shannon Bond Cake Designs, Elizabeth Marek of Artisan Cake Company, Ruth Rickey of SugarGypsy just to name a few. The greatest thing about these ladies is that they are my family, they are there for me anytime I need them, cake decorating or real life situations. It is something amazing when the people you look up to become some of the most important people in your life.

Your top 3 favorite cakes/desserts to make!

My two favorite flavors to make are Traditional Vanilla, Oreo, and Strawberry Lemon Paradise.

What are some of the best desserts for the season?

Best season flavors: Fresh berries, fruit preserves, and custards are great to pair with vanilla or almond cake for spring and summer weddings. Chocolate mousses, pie fillings, cream cheese are great to pair with velvet cake, spice cake, or traditional vanilla for fall and winter weddings.

What do you do in your free time to relax?

When I have free time I love to be with my family. I have three children 7, 5, and 2 years old and we love exploring like going to the beach to soak up the sun and play in the water or heading to the aquarium to see the fishies!

What is the best piece of advice you can give to a couple who is searching for a cake and dessert professional?

My advice to cake seeking couples is to do your research on the quality of work provided by the business, go to at least 3 different tastings to make sure you are getting good quality and tasting cake, and finally make sure that you pair well with your cake artist. Cake is one of the most important things for your wedding because it is one thing the guests will always remember.
