What led you to planning weddings?
Two River Events came to life after my own wedding. I had worked in the event industry since I was 14 (thanks to my mom, a 30 year wedding veteran!), even with all of our experience my biggest regret was not having someone there on the day of managing the details. My phone did not stop ringing and my mom even had to have her hair done twice that day because she went out to fix something that we trusted someone to do and it wasn’t to our standards (which I’ll admit are kind of high). With the years of banquet and event experience that I had, I decided to jump in and see what would happen. Something that started as a side business for me has grown into a full-time business.

What is the inspiration behind your business?
The biggest inspiration behind my business is the reason why I started it. I want my clients to be able to enjoy their events, worry free.
What do you love most about Hampton Roads weddings?
Oh man! What a tough question… I think my biggest love for this area is the versatility it has. It was one of the biggest attractions to me when I first came to the area and really spent some time here in 2003. I loved the beaches, the nautical history, the tourism, that fact that you can hide from all of that in the middle of a field and honestly, the southern hospitality. I have been so lucky to have met some of the sweetest, most genuine people in this area.
Describe your ideal couple!
My ideal client is understanding, decisive and comfortable working together. I encourage each couple to find things that are important to them and build an event around those details but a couple who can also keep an open mind that some details may need to flex with budgets, weather or other restricting factors that pop up with weddings and large events.

What is your favorite moment during the wedding and how does it feel to have planned it?
My favorite part of every wedding is the moment right before my bride starts walking down the aisle. It’s always a fun moment for us as we take my signature “selfie with my bride” before she walks. Those last few moments of her single life being spent with me is an honor. I am honored to have been chosen to stand there with her, honored to share in the day and it is always a huge sense of excitement knowing that all of the planning leading up to that moment is about to come full circle and the next few hours will be busy, but so fun and so full of love. My next favorite is that moment when that same bride walks back down the aisle. Selfishly, I get to be one of the first to congratulate them!
Share with us why wedding planners are so important!
Because we are some of the coolest people ever! Kidding… kind of! Of course I am going to sound totally biased in this answer but a wedding planner is for YOU! Venue coordinators are there with the best interests of their venue in mind first, then you as a client. I have worked with some pretty amazing venue coordinators who make that a seamless transition. Wedding planners are there 100% to make sure that your wishes are taken care of start to finish and always have your best interests in mind.
What is your absolute favorite Hampton Roads venue to work at and why?
This isn’t a fair question… I love many for different reasons. If I had to choose one, I would have to pick the Williamsburg Winery. I was married there myself and it holds a very special place in my heart because of that. I get to reminisce of my own day each time I am there watching another couple say their vows.

What do you love to do in your free time?
In my free time I love to spend time with my two kiddos, Paisley and Parker, and my husband James. They are my favorite people in the whole world and life wouldn’t be nearly as fun… and chaotic without them. I also love to hunt, and anytime spent outdoors is always a great time!

What is the best piece of advice you can give to a couple who is searching for a wedding planner?
Find someone you are comfortable with and connect with. This person will begin to know you and your wedding just as intimately as you. You need to be able to put 100% trust in them that they can handle anything that pops on your day. If you aren’t sure, find someone else. I would say the same thing about any vendor you are looking at. Trust your gut, cost isn’t always a true indicator of the level of service you will get, whether that is a high cost and low quality or low cost high quality vendor. Ask questions.
