Zach and Julie’s Shifting Sands wedding was full of pure joy! These sweethearts live in San Diego and ventured back to Virginia Beach to celebrate their wedding surrounded by family and friends. Zach took the reigns of wedding planning while Julie was in various deployments. Now that is an awesome groom! The navy, coral and ivory details were a perfect palette for this beach themed wedding. Read on for more of this beautiful wedding along with inspiration and wedding planning advice from Julie!
What was your inspiration for your wedding details?
From the Bride: Our inspiration was the beach but not in a cliché “beachy” way. It was the natural aspect and beauty of the sand, the shoreline, and the ocean and everything it has to offer. Our first real date was on a remote beach on Hatteras Island of the Outer Banks, NC. There was something about the salty air that day, and as we were alone walking down the beach that day with nothing but the surrounding environment of the sand water and driftwood, it was almost simultaneous as stared into each other’s eyes and realized we were staring into the eyes of the person we wanted to spend the rest of our lives with. So with that in our hearts that is what the details were driven to resemble. Simply capturing the natural feelings associated with the nature of the beach.
What was your favorite thing about your wedding?
Seeing everything come together! Phew what a relief! It truly was amazing to watch everything unfold as all of our family and friends were brought together. We wanted to share our love with everyone else equally as we shared it for each other. Everybody that attended our wedding has very importantly touched our lives in their own special way and we wanted to touch theirs by sharing our most special experience with them. It was incredible just how much life, love, and laughter filled the room throughout the ceremony and reception.
Which local vendors made your day EXTRA special?
Emily and Justin Gibby – Photography and videography: We had a very tight and limited schedule and they absolutely bent over backwards to make it work. The short amount of time we spent with them during photo shoots leading up to the wedding, was the first time we were able to forget the stress of the wedding and just enjoy the moment and they created that environment for us. That carried over to the wedding, they not only captured every incredible moment of our wedding they helped create those moments. Emily and Justin are more that just photo and video artists, we were blessed to have them on our big day, and our only wish is that we wish we could have spent more time with them.
Joe Fortuner – DJ and MC: Going into our wedding we assumed that a DJ was just there to play music and no big deal. Wrong. Our sequence of events throughout the night could not have possibly gone smoother and that is all thanks to Mr. Fortuner. He maintained the flow and timing of the reception like no other. As soon as he started managing the reception we realized all we had to do was enjoy it and wait for DJ Fortuner to make the call for the next dance, toast, and cake cutting. He also perfectly read the crowd as the dance floor was packed the entire night!
The Shifting Sands and Hedy Stevenson – Hedy Stevenson is a family friend and our wedding coordinator. She does not work at the shifting sands but both her and the shifting sands were there for us every step of the way! They fielded all of our calls, questions, and concerns at our convenience without hesitation. They thought about issues and resolved them before they even had a chance to come up. They really took the time to understand our expectations for our day. They endlessly communicated with each other and worked tirelessly to meet those expectations. Our day would not have been possible without their effort.
What is your best piece of advice for other local brides?
- Give yourself plenty of time.
- Have patience, the little details wont mater in the big moments.
- Take the time to get to know your vendors and make sure they are taking the time to get to know you.
- Be thankful and blessed for those able to be there with you every step of the way and equally understanding and blessed for those unable.
- ENJOY every second of it! You’re with all of your family and best friends while marrying your very best friend!
