What is the inspiration behind your business?

The inspiration behind Lauren Perry Studio stemmed from watching so many of my friends plan their weddings and have to settle for invitations that they didn’t love. By selecting a pre-designed, mass-produced design, they were never able to find a look that perfectly captured their unique relationship. Lauren Perry Studio was born out of a strong passion for loving and celebrating the unique aspects of each couple, whether that is the fact that they met freshman year in Physics class, have a pug obsession, or want to spend every day traveling the world!

What is your favorite part about creating wedding stationery?

My absolute favorite part about creating wedding stationery is getting to know my couples, hearing their proposal and relationship stories, and developing a relationship with them where at the end of the process, we’re friends! Getting to play a small role in what will be one of the happiest days of their lives is the most special and rewarding thing I’ve ever had the opportunity to be part of, and I am always a little sad when the design process comes to an end!

What do you love most about Hampton Roads weddings?

Hampton Roads is such an incredible area because it is full of such rich history. I’m a total sucker for anything southern, and all of the etiquette and traditions that come with that. Hampton Roads offers such a beautiful variety of wedding venues, that inspires so many different wedding styles. From a beautiful southern plantation wedding, to a nautical beach-front celebration, to an elegant vineyard reception under the stars, Hampton Roads offers brides so many exciting options!

What are some of your favorite pieces of stationery that you have designed?

I absolutely love the sweet monogram on this invitation. Inspired by a fun, southern, romantic look, we created this monogram to be used throughout the wedding day (including on adorable embroidered napkins) and topped it off with gold calligraphy!

Another favorite is this modern, southern wedding invitation in navy and gold. It is one of my all-time favorites, as it perfectly captures the modern, southern style that extends your guests a feeling of Southern hospitality from the very first day.

How do you match the invitations to the different wedding themes?

Your wedding invitations are the first glimpse of your wedding style and colors that your guests will see, and set the tone for what to expect for the big day! One of the first things I do with my couples is get to know them, and their unique love story. Once we’ve done that, we talk about pieces from that story that we can include in their wedding invitations and paperie.

One of my favorite examples of this is this hand calligraphed invitation for one of my all-time favorite couples. They had a beautiful wedding on Mackinac Island, and the hand painted watercolor lilacs, navy calligraphy and vintage postage stamps set the stage for their gorgeous, intimate wedding. The bride and groom loved spending time on Mackinac Island, and had always loved the purple lilacs that covered the island in June. As soon as the bride sent me a photo of her GORGEOUS wedding gown (adorned with delicate little flowers), we knew that we had to include the lilacs in their invitation suite!

What do you do love to do in your free time?

Most people don’t know that by day, I am an architect focused on designing K-12 schools and community buildings. Architecture and creating beautiful, functional spaces for people to thrive in is one of my biggest passions and I am so lucky to get to not only design buildings every day, but to design beautiful wedding invitations as well! When I’m not hard at work designing, you can find me on the beach or scuba-diving!

What is the best piece of advice you can give to a couple who is searching for a stationery & paper goods designer?

The most important thing when searching for your stationery designer is a connection. And, that goes for all of your vendors! It is so important to find vendors who have experience in their field and understand your vision, but the most important component is your relationship with your vendors. Pick vendors who you trust, who respect you, who are EXCITED for you and don’t just see this as another job, they see it as one of the most special days of your life. One of the most important parts of my job is to build a strong relationship with my couples, and any other important people in the process – be that parents, future in laws, or the wedding party. Knowing you and your fiance, your style, and what makes you special as a couple allows me to not only capture that in your invitations and day-of details, but also to be a friend to you throughout the wedding planning process.
